Brodifacoum

This is the most active known rodenticide within the family of coumarin derivative, second-generation anticoagulant rodenticides.

Identity

Coumarin-based
Common Name: brodifacum, brodifacoum
IUPAC: 3-[3-[4-(4-Bromophenyl)phenyl]-1,2,3,4-tetrahydronaphthalen-1-yl]-2-hydroxychromen-4-one
CAS Number: 56073-10-0

Activity

It is the most active known anticoagulant within the family of coumarin-based rodenticides. It reduces blood coagulation ability (factors II, VII, IX and X) by inhibiting prothrombin and blocking reductase in the cycle of vitamin K1 epoxide. Death happens suddenly within a few days of ingesting a lethal dose. As opposed to other less active anticoagulants, a lethal dose of brodifacoum can be ingested as part of a same-day food consumption.
